The movie Hide and Seek, featuring Vishwant as the lead actor and Shilpa Manjunath and Riya Sachdev as the female leads, was released today. Let’s dive into the review and find out how well this film resonated with the audience.
Plot:
Shiva (played by Vishwant) is a medical student who secretly prepares to join the army as a doctor without his family’s knowledge. Varsha (Riya Sachdev), who attends the same college, falls in love with Shiva, and her family approves of their marriage. However, a series of murders begin to unfold. Who is behind these murders? Why are they happening? How does police officer Vaishnavi (Shilpa Manjunath) investigate these crimes? What is Shiva’s connection to these murders, and why do the police arrest him? The rest of the story revolves around these questions.
Positive Aspects:
Vishwant, Shilpa Manjunath, and Riya Sachdev deliver commendable performances in the lead roles. Vishwant and Shilpa, in particular, stand out with their acting. Shilpa shines as a confident and serious police officer. The crime scenes and the twists in the plot, which complicate the characters’ lives, are executed decently. Some of the sequences where the characters try to escape the problems are fairly well done.
Negative Aspects:
Director Basi Reddy Rana tries to add some intense and gripping moments to this ‘gaming crime journey,’ but many scenes progress too slowly, especially in the first half. The crime scenes in the initial portion of the movie feel tedious. The director takes too much time introducing the characters and involving the audience in their lives. Moreover, the villain’s character feels underwhelming and passive.
The regular crime investigation scenes fail to captivate the audience, and despite having the potential to highlight the interactions between the main characters more effectively, the director doesn’t utilize this content well. The story is too simple, and the screenplay is overly predictable, contributing to a lack of engagement.
In the second half, the lack of a strong plot and the disappointing key sequences further weaken the film. Overall, the movie doesn’t meet expectations.
Technical Aspects:
In terms of technicalities, although Basi Reddy Rana attempts to craft engaging crime scenes and action sequences, particularly in the climax, these efforts don’t quite work. The screenplay falls flat, and the overall direction fails to impress. Lijo K Josh’s background score is just adequate, while Chinna Ram’s cinematography adds some beauty to the film with well-shot scenes. Editing is decent, and producer Narendra Buchireddy ensured the film was made without compromises, maintaining good production values.
Verdict:
Hide and Seek doesn’t manage to deliver as an engaging crime thriller. While a few crime elements are passable, the slow-paced narrative, uninspiring treatment of the core plot, and dull ‘gaming’ concept drag the film down. Overall, the movie struggles to connect with the audience and falls short of expectations.
